The Blekinge County Museum

Blekinge museum in Karlskrona was once the palace of Admiral Hans Wachtmeister which was completed in 1705. Today it is housing a library, archives, exhibitions about the 18th century in Blekinge and a beautiful café in the Count’s old kitchen. The museum buildings facing Borgmästarefjärden you find unique exhibitions about the history of Blekinge and the boatbuilding tradition. Blekinge marked as a coastal county with an archipelago, the museum chiefly focuses on maritime heritage.

Blekinge museum have two traditional wooden boats "Klaura" 28 feet and "Camilla" 15 feet for rent. A good option if you want to discover the beautiful archipelago of Blekinge on your own. (Sailing experience is required).

A couple of years ago the museum bought Saxemara boatyard, one of the last working boatyards for traditional wooden boats to keep the knowledge about traditional wooden boatbuilding alive.

In 2009, a storehouse open to the public was inaugurated at the new museum annex Rosenholm. Here, one of the largest collections of traditional Swedish boats is on display.
