Maritime Handicrafts
Maritime Handicrafts differentiated more and more during the times of the sailing navigation between the 17th and 19th century. Those handicrafts that emerged in connection with the building of a sailing ship were mainly the ship's carpenters and shipwrights, sail makers, rope makers, ship's blacksmiths and block makers. These craftsmen did not necessarily belong to the shipyard, they rather gathered together as self-employed craftsmen in order to build a ship on a boat construction site.
